Since then, various faction leaders from both the Alliance and Horde have gone missing: Lady Jaina Proudmoore, Baine Bloodhoof, Thrall, and Anduin Wrynn. Instead, she shattered it, and with it, reality itself, opening a way to the Shadowlands. When Sylvanas Windrunner attacked Highlord Bolvar Fordragon at Icecrown Citadel, he expected her to take the Lich King's crown for herself. When you describe the winged creatures who kidnapped the faction leaders, you're told about the Kyrian of Bastion - who are also winged and can ferry mortal souls to the afterlife, and you decide to head to Bastion to find out if you can learn more. You get to know the city of Oribos and establish portals back to Azeroth, and you explain what brought you here in the first place. Your arrival made the Arbiter stir and it is hoped that your presence will help return things to normal. The Arbiter has gone dormant, all souls are being sent to the Maw, and there's an anima drought affecting all of the Shadowlands. You learn that, in the Shadowlands, all souls are usually judged by the Arbiter before being sent to their eternal afterlife. It's unheard of for a living mortal to appear here, nevermind a mortal who seems to have escaped the Maw. You find yourself in Oribos, the Eternal City, where you find your arrival seems to have caused a stir. However, when you touch it, only you journey through, leaving your friends trapped in the Maw. You discover a way out of the Maw - a waystone, supposedly dormant, but which seems to activate when you approach it. You find Jaina and a wounded Thrall first, rescue Anduin from the chains Sylvanas bound him in, and finally, rescue Baine after seeing the Jailer himself. ![]() You are summoned by Highlord Bolvar Fordragon to help Darion Mograine and the Ebon Blade as they venture into the Maw to try save them. Sylvanas Windrunner has torn a rift through reality itself, opening a portal to the Shadowlands, and has taken Jaina Proudmoore, Baine Bloodhoof, Thrall, and Anduin Wrynn into the Maw, a terrible realm full of torture where only the most irredeemable souls are meant to go.
